Stack Emissions Testing

Environmental air quality monitoring is required to ensure emissions are of an acceptable level and of acceptable quality.

Stack emissions testing is carried out to:

  • Monitor emissions of various pollutants (listed below)
  • Assess compliance with limits set out in licences
  • Monitoring is undertaken to determine inlet gas composition as well as stack gas emissions for dioxins and furans, HCl, HF, combustion gases, total VOCs and speciated VOCs.

Metals and other pollutants which may be present in stack emissions pose potential health and environmental risks.

Monitoring stack emissions provides an opportunity to identify potential risks and devise remediation plans if risk is present.

The main pollutants of concern are:

  • Particles including PM10 and suspended particulates
  • Nitrogen Oxides
  • Sulphur Dioxide
  • Carbon Monoxide
  • Lead and other heavy metals
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (BTEX)
